william shakespeare

"He was not of an age, but for all time."
-Ben Jonson
William Shakespeare is a famous english poet and playwright, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language. He is often called England's national poet and the "Bard of Avon" (or simply "The Bard"). His surviving works consist of 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and several other poems. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.
Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, King Lear, and Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the English language. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights.
As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII [All the world's a stage]
All the world's a stage,And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances,And one man in his time plays many parts,His acts being seven ages. At first, the infant,Mewling and puking in the nurse's arms. Then the whining schoolboy, with his satchelAnd shining morning face, creeping like snailUnwillingly to school. And then the lover,Sighing like furnace, with a woeful balladMade to his mistress' eyebrow. Then a soldier,Full of strange oaths and bearded like the pard,Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,Seeking the bubble reputationEven in the cannon's mouth. And then the justice,In fair round belly with good capon lined,With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,Full of wise saws and modern instances; And so he plays his part. The sixth age shiftsInto the lean and slippered pantaloon,With spectacles on nose and pouch on side; His youthful hose, well saved, a world too wideFor his shrunk shank, and his big manly voice,Turning again toward childish treble, pipesAnd whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,That ends this strange eventful history,Is second childishness and mere oblivion,Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII [Blow, blow, thou winter wind]
Blow, blow, thou winter wind, Thou art not so unkind As man's ingratitude; Thy tooth is not so keen, Because thou art not seen, Although thy breath be rude.Heigh-ho! sing, heigh-ho! unto the green holly:Most friendship is feigning, most loving mere folly: Then, heigh-ho, the holly! This life is most jolly. Freeze, freeze, thou bitter sky, That does not bite so nigh As benefits forgot: Though thou the waters warp, Thy sting is not so sharp As friend remembered not.Heigh-ho! sing . . .
Hamlet, Act I, Scene I [Some say that ever 'gainst that season comes]
Some say that ever 'gainst that season comes
Wherein our Saviour's birth is celebrated,
This bird of dawning singeth all night long;
And then, they say, no spirit dare stir abroad,
The nights are wholesome, then no planets strike,
No fairy takes, nor witch hath power to charm,
So hallow'd and so gracious is the time.

There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends

i like this poem because the language is not very deep and is easily understood.

confesions of a HCI student

personally i feel that life in HCI is stressful
first, we have alot of things to digest in a short period of time
secondly, the CCA
i cant deny i like my CCA alot
but it is tiring
then to top it all
we have homework
sometimes we have little homework
sometimes we have more
on CCA days, there is little to no time to do homework
so i rush through my work
sometimes i leave till morning to do
then i have to revise my work
on a CCA day, i have to balance work, revision
school and CCA together

so its very stressful

Who is your least and favorite character in VBTS?

who is my least and favorite character?

i do not like Biju

he acts like he is the king or a ruler
because he is richer than all of the villagers in Thul
he is very arrogant

i like hari

he is very independent towards the end of the story
he learns a few skills which will come in handy

Which part of village by the sea do you like best?

i like the part where Hari goes to Bombay

why?
this is the part where the whole story takes a turn
for better or for worse
hari gets a job
lila takes care of herself
father "waking" up
mother's health getting better

this is also the part where hari earns money
and eventually earns enough for his family to buy
whatever they want

Is progress necessarily beneficial for the society?

nope, that is my answer

look at things this way
the IR in singapore
correct, it boosts the economy
but, its a casino
causes addiction

factories
they boost production and economy
but, what about pollution?

progress may be beneficial to the society
but the drawbacks may be worse

would I rather be the city rat than the country rat

this question has no definite answer
each option has pros and cons

pros of city rat:
technology - tv? radio? music? internet?
transportation - buses? MRT's? taxis?
survival - factories? offices? companies? salary?

cons of city rat
relationship - neighbours have hardly if not no chance of a good chat
family members have less time for a good chat
pace of life - city has a very fast pace of life
people are rushing to go anywhere
-rushing to work
-rushing to eat
-rushing to meeting
fixed routine - weekdays
-wake
-eat
-work/school
-eat
-work/study
-eat
-rest
-sleep
-weekends
-wake
-eat
-work/free
-eat
-work/free
-eat
-free
-sleep

pros of country rat
relationship - the doors of a house in a countryside is usually open till late at night
thus neighbours can just drop by to chat
pace of life - country people lead a more relaxed pace of life
the people in the country side of malaysia wake up
early in the morning to go to the plantations
then at 11am to noon they return
after lunch they either work more or its free and easy
tranquility - the country side is alot quieter than the city, which is always full of shouting, and
honking of horns
nearest to nature - the country side is unlike the city in that the plants present are natural
the city might have observatories, but they are planted by man

cons of country rat
accessibility - the country side has no buses whatsoever
cleanliness - the country side is all sand, soil and mud
pests - the country side is full of mosquitoes, flies, roaches, lizards, etc

with this many pros and cons, my stand shall neutral

P.S. information about the country side is based on a particular country side in malaysia
